Dating (mis)adventures of an unexpectedly sexy New Yorker

  • About Me

I’m a 30-year-old (!!!), single, charming, and totally dorky girl taking on the ridiculous New York dating scene. When guys are surprised to see a sex kitten emerge from behind my dorky exterior, I just smile and reply, “Who ever said that dorks can’t be sexy?" [More]

Things I’m loving right this second

28 Feb 2009

This weekend is pretty low-key.  I hosted a “girls’ night in” at my apartment last night (complete with home-cooked dinner, lots of wine, romantic movies, and lots of Kleenex), and I’ll probably just loaf around for the rest of the weekend.  It’s nice every once in a while to just chill out and relax on my couch, especially because I’ve been running around for the last few weekends in a row.  Anyway, this post is kind of just a stream-of-consciousness tonight.  Even on this cold winter night (damn, where is the spring already?), there are a bunch of things that still make me happy:

1.  Any kind of sushi that involves shrimp tempura.  Peeps, I don’t know what it is about sushi, but I love it with a fiery passion that makes me forget about stupid boy bullshit and the fact that this winter will just NOT END.  I splurged and got myself some sushi takeout for dinner from my favorite pan-asian place, and dudes, it was so orgasmic that I was overwhelmed by a hazy sex-stupor and had to take a little nap to sleep it off.  Loved it.  Side note: I order takeout from this sushi place often enough that the guy at the front desk knows me, and I always get that “Ah, I see you’re back with another ‘sushi for one’ order tonight” look from him.  Damn, why does ordering takeout have to be so complicated?

2.  Older men.  Listen, I know I’ve made a big stink over not liking older men on more than one occasion.  I know.  I remember.  But peeps, lately I’ve been looking at older men in a slightly different light, and for some reason, right now I find myself super attracted to the clean-cut, athletic 40-ish crowd.  In particular, there’s a guy that I run into every once in a while that’s about 40 and is just the cutest thing since sliced bread, seriously.  I just want to eat him up with a spoon, starting with his cute spiky haircut and devouring the little wrinkles around his eyes.  Is that so bad???  Too bad he’s married, but maybe I can find myself an eligible bachelor whose extra years of experience will make my eyes pop out of my head or something.  Hahaha, I’ll keep you posted on that one.

3.  Little girls.  I’ve known for a long time that living in an all-boy family for so many years has made me really, really want a little girl to play with.  To clarify, I don’t want to give birth to a little girl, I just want to borrow someone else’s little girl so I can braid her hair and play dolls with her and do all sorts of cute girly things.  Case in point: Yesterday afternoon someone brought in their granddaughter (she must have been about 18 months or so) to the office, and as soon as I spotted her in the hallway my mommy gene kicked in big time and I was all, “I WANT ONE.”  I stuck my head out of my cube, waved to the little sweetheart, and she came running over with her Tigger and Eeyore toys.  After introducing ourselves, I asked if that was a Tigger in her hand, and her response was a big smile and a “Boing boing!” as she bounced the little guy up and down.  HOW CUTE IS THAT???  I wanted to drop dead from the cuteness.  She was giggling and smiling and her big wide eyes were so amazing and so curious about everything around her.  It was adorable.  I repeat, I WANT ONE.  : )

4.  Little boys.  As much as I want a little girl to play with, I still love the litte guys in my life.  Last weekend I went to my nephew’s birthday party, and the look on his face when he opened my gift was priceless.  I love that wide-eyed “WOW” that kids get.  Isn’t it so great?  : )  For the record, the WOW-inducing gift was Lego Batman for Wii.  I have no idea if it’s any good or not, but apparently it’s a hit with the kids.

5.  Hot chocolate.  There’s nothing quite like a steaming mug of hot chocolate to warm me up on a cold winter night.  Combine that with my awesome couch, cozy blanket, pajama pants, and Lord of the Rings (thanks TNT; yes, I really AM a big dork), and I am one very happy DD.  In fact, that’s where I’ll be until further notice.  : )

Hope you’re all having a great weekend!

Other people’s kids are awesome. I work as a nanny so I get all the perks of having children, without actually having to have children.

Oh and I have a random question for my beloved American internet friends that has absolutely nothing to do with the above :

My friend and I are traveling to US in Winter 2010 and are trying to decide where to a) spend Xmas and b) spend NYE.

Any suggestions? NYC and Las Vegas are probably the 2 big contenders for New Years (just for the cheese factor) but other opinions are most welcome. Something a bit quirky/random/unique (especially for Xmas) would be fun :D

    DD,

Sounds like my weekend. I went hiking with my Brother on Saturday, saw my cousin’s in-door field hockey game, and then LOTR all weekend. And they are replaying them all in a row this afternoon. So I am a happy man.

Claire – I really don’t have any interesting/quirky recommendations for you… but maybe someone else wants to chime in? I’ve lived in New York practically all my life, and I’ve never done Times Square on New Year’s Eve. It seems like such a pain in the ass! Hahaha. I’m so lazy.

KT, Virgin, and Chris – Lord of the Rings has been playing in my apartment all day today – love it! There’s just something about Orlando Bloom and those pointy elf ears… YUM. : )

Mmmmm….Hot chocolate is sooo my thing during the cold weather months. In fact, I’m running out in a few minutes to get a large hot choc from Dunkin Donuts. I think they have the best!

Got something to say?
