Dating (mis)adventures of an unexpectedly sexy New Yorker

  • About Me

I’m a 30-year-old (!!!), single, charming, and totally dorky girl taking on the ridiculous New York dating scene. When guys are surprised to see a sex kitten emerge from behind my dorky exterior, I just smile and reply, “Who ever said that dorks can’t be sexy?" [More]

A totally self-indulgent Memorial Day weekend

25 May 2009

Dudes, I had a great long weekend, and I hope you did too!  : )  I took Friday afternoon off from work, so I essentially had 4 days off in a row, which is seriously unheard of for me unless I’m deathly ill with the plague or something.  It was a very much needed mini-vacation, and I enjoyed every little bit of it.  Sigh, if only I had another 4 days off!

First, the weather: It was pretty much gorgeous everyday.  The forecast called for thunderstorms as of Thursday afternoon, but they never managed to materialize.  Instead, we had four days of warmth and sunshine, perfect for frolicking with mini-vacation jubilation.

Second, the me-time: I really didn’t do much this weekend at all, which was exactly what I wanted.  I got in a freaking TON of me-time, including catching up on old movies that I had been wanting to watch, picking up on old projects around the house, developing some new WW-friendly recipes, watching paternity tests on Maury, walking around in my underwear all day, etc.  : )  You know, all the stuff that I never have time to do after work.  It was fantastic!

Third, the beach: I finally decided to venture out into the world this afternoon and went to the beach with a friend.  Dude, it was SO incredibly relaxing and so peaceful.  I walked away with a feeling that all is right with the world, and I even got a tiny bit of color on my pasty-white skin.  Granted, I slathered myself in SPF 55 beforehand (I’m paranoid about sun exposure, much like I’m paranoid about a million other things, including birth control!), but I still got a little sun.  Yay!

A final note: With four office-free days, it was glaringly obvious that my quality of life *dramatically* improves when I’m not at work, thinking about work, or dreading having to go to work.  Does the office really make me that unhappy?  Over the past few days, I’ve noticed that my mood has been so much better than when I’m schlepping myself into work all the time, and it got me thinking… what about the office is making me so miserable?  Then I realized that I am DAMN lucky to even have a job right now, and I’m not going to complain about it.  Paychecks are good.  Enough said.

Anyway, I hope you all had a great weekend and found some time to do whatever it is that makes you happy.  As for me, I’m off to soak up the last few hours of the holiday weekend.  Yay!

P.S. – Notice how there is no mention of anything even remotely related to dating/sex in this post?  I’m telling you, my dating life has died a miserable death.  I need to revive it, stat.

I can relate to what you wrote about being much happier away from work. That said, if I was your age and miserable in my job, I think I’d seriously consider quiting life.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! Keep in mind, if you did enjoy work, you wouldn’t try so hard to enjoy your life outside of work. I really don’t think we are meant to enjoy being at work. It is a necessary evil!

Hammer – Well, I don’t think I’d ever quit my life (there are plenty of good parts!), and quitting my job in this economy is not going to happen. I have a great job; I think I just need to make myself dread it a little less.

Gray – So true – if work was supposed to be fun, they wouldn’t call it “work.” : )

casualencounters – You are truly the exception to the rule, my dear.

People can love their jobs / that it doesn’t feel like work and that’s a great thing, but it’s ultimately a place of responsibilities and deadlines which is going to be draining no matter what.

Our personal lives – and home – is our little bubble where we can relax, and I agree that it’s far easier to unwind and see the bigger picture when we can unwind.
