Dating (mis)adventures of an unexpectedly sexy New Yorker

  • About Me

I’m a 30-year-old (!!!), single, charming, and totally dorky girl taking on the ridiculous New York dating scene. When guys are surprised to see a sex kitten emerge from behind my dorky exterior, I just smile and reply, “Who ever said that dorks can’t be sexy?" [More]

WW Wednesday: Week 2 results & discussion

13 May 2009

Hey peeps – just a short post tonight because the season finale of Lost pretty much ate up my entire evening… but man, was it friggin AWESOME or what????  Can’t wait for next season.

Anyway, today was my second weigh-in at Weight Watchers, and dudes, I only lost one pound this past week.  Bummer.  What the fuck, I mean really?  I was so friggin good all week and stuck to all the guidelines, and I only lost one stupid pound?  Honestly, I was pretty bummed out all day and was debating whether all the deprivation is even worth it.

But then I remembered something that the WW facilitator said last week: don’t turn positives into negatives.  Meaning, losing one pound is better than not losing any, and it’s a hell of a lot better than gaining a pound which is probably what would have happened had I not joined WW in the first place.  So I decided to celebrate my little accomplishment and let it fuel my motivation for this upcoming week.  I got home, went for a run to burn some extra calories, and stuck to the guidelines for dinner.  I reminded myself that even if I only lose one pound each week, I should still meet my goal of losing 10-15 pounds total by the end of the 12-week program.  So progress is good, and I’m just pushing myself forward.  Positive thoughts, positive thoughts…

Lessons learned/observations from this past week:

  • I’m starting to miss eating like a normal human being.  I miss cheese and pasta and eating at restaurants and drinking something other than water.  Also, I miss alcohol.  Damn it, I need a drink!
  • I hate artificial sugar.  I don’t care if I have to use up three fucking points for a real yogurt instead of one point for a stripped-out artificial garbage yogurt.  I tried the diet stuff, and it tastes like shit.  Real sugar only from this point forward.

I’m only 0.6 pounds away from the 5-pound mark (total weight loss so far = 4.4 pounds in two weeks), so there’s something to look forward to for next week, hopefully.  Onward and upward!

Edited to add: P.S. – “Results & discussion?”  What I am I writing here, a lab report?  Haha.

I hated how they ended Lost on “that” cliffhanger, kinda abrupt. I don’t get why the show starts in the winter now (despite lower ep count), why not fall like everything else?

It’s too soon for the different diet to have a noticeable effect.

When I was on a very strict diet I did not notice any weight loss until after 2x weeks.

Then the weight fell off at an almost alarming rate.

Don’t be sad about that. You shouldn’t lose more than two pounds per week, like that, it’s healthy and will not come back soon.
Also, maybe you’d like to hear that you brought me back on track for my own diet. Been very good for three days. Unfortunately, I have some work thing the whole weekend, so I will not even get to decide what I eat. Oh well, it’s just three days, and I can always eat very little.
Lots of luck with your diet!

You do realize it isn’t all about pounds, but also inches? Don’t just stare at the scale. Go by how your body looks and your clothes fit.

I’m happy to hear you are doing so good!

Virgin – Oh, I loved the cliffhanger! Gives us all something to stew over until January. Love it, love it, love it. I think Lost does a compressed season in the winter/spring so they don’t have to show so many repeats, like 24. Works for me.

Tony – I’m not so sure WW works that way, but I do hope that the pounds start falling off sooner rather than later. They say that you’re supposed to lose an average of 2 pounds per week on WW, so in that respect, I’m still on target. I’m just impatient!

Nadine – So glad to hear that my little story has inspired you – congrats, and keep me posted! One of my biggest fears is work travel, social gatherings, etc., where I won’t be in control of what/when I eat. I don’t know how I’m going to handle it! Hopefully I won’t have to anytime soon. I have a BBQ this weekend, but I’m going to bring my own food, LOL.

Rachelle – Thanks! Yeah, the ultimate metric is how my pants fit, and I *have* noticed a significant difference. I’m not measuring myself but am taking notice of what clothes I can/can’t fit into as I go along. We’ll see how it goes…
