Speaking as a guy, I can’t believe NYL hasn’t called either. Despite the apparent interest he was showing in you recently, he’s clearly not bothered enough to make an effort. His insincerity or lack of consistency is a big warning sign.

When you meet someone with whom you’re a good match, you won’t worry (as much) over whether they like you – it will be obvious from their actions.

This NYL guy sounds like an asswipe – write him off and find someone new, of quality. If he has the audacity to ever contact you again, don’t even dignify him with a reply.

I’m not sure what kind of PhD you are planning to do but are you sure that the verbal section matters too much? I know that most economics PhD programmes mostly care about the quant section, otherwise no foreigner would make it.
