LostforWords – I’ve already registered, and I really don’t want to have to take it again. I hope I can cram it all in and do it right the first time!

Honey – I just want to show a decent score on the GRE… but a good score would be nice. We’ll see. As for the commute, it looks like my commute will actually get shorter, so no complaints here. : ) Like you, I have NO tolerance for long commutes!

Nicole – We met online a few years ago. I can’t post pics, obviously, but he’s a blond-haired, blue-eyed midwestern boy with a military-style haircut. Very cute, in my opinion!

Andrew – Hahaha, boys are distracted so easily! Feel free to picture me as the ideal Catholic school girl… although I have to say, I thought I looked pretty damn cute in those uniforms. I still have them… by the way… : )

hubman – I think we’re just talking about 2 different things. Yes, 1 st dev above and below the mean is 68% of the total. Also, 1 st dev above the mean plus everything below it is 84% of the total, and 2 st devs above the mean plus everything below it is 98% of the total. I’m trying to memorize the bell curve, and if I remember 84% and 98%, I can calculate everything else.

In an effort to help you excel on the GRE, may I point out an error? One standard deviation includes 68% of the data above AND below the mean. Sorry, I’m nit-picky that way…

Since I am (among other things) a graduate admissions counselor, I can say that in my programs, at least, the GRE is only one factor, and as long as the rest of your application is strong many people with lower scores are fine.

Re: the job – are you going to have to move to another office building? What will this do to your commute? A good commute is KEY to my happiness – almost as important as the job itself.

Hang in there! As far as I remember you can give GRE quite often. Have you signed up already or can you postpone for a bit later and still be able to make your school deadlines? Otherwise it is worth giving it again as GRE is one of the first things a school will look at and you want to get entry to a very good one.

Do not bother about NYL. If he got scared his problem, you did the right thing! And the Marine? Same old, right? It is funny how insanely attractive we can find something while others don’t -but this is good as we do not want all girls to fight for the same man ;
)
