The Dateable Dork

Dating (mis)adventures of an unexpectedly sexy New Yorker

  • About Me

I’m a 30-year-old (!!!), single, charming, and totally dorky girl taking on the ridiculous New York dating scene. When guys are surprised to see a sex kitten emerge from behind my dorky exterior, I just smile and reply, “Who ever said that dorks can’t be sexy?" [More]

Making plans

08 Feb 2010

Today was a craaaaaazy busy day at work, which kinda sucked because I have a bunch of plans to make and no time to make them.  Geez.  Doesn’t my boss know that I have more important things to do during the day than work??  Hahahaha.  Anyway, get a load of the exciting plans being made this week:

1.  Grad school campus visits!  Yes, my dears, you read that right.  Pasty white DD is heading off to sunny CA to soak up the sunshine and meet with fellow dorks.  To be fair, I’m also planning a trip here in the northeast.  It just so happens that my warm weather and cold weather trips will be back-to-back, which will be pretty tiring but hopefully well worth it.  The trips are taking place in early March, so this week I’m busy booking airfare and hotels and making arrangements with professors, etc.  If all goes according to plan, I’ll have at least one more trip in the works, potentially in April.  Can’t wait to touch down in CA and bust out my short-sleeved blouses!

2.  NYL and I are cooking dinner together after work tomorrow night.  How freaking cute is this??  We had originally planned to catch a movie, but somehow it turned into cooking dinner at his place.  The choice of what to make is up to me, so I picked up a few ingredients after work today to whip up something that looks really delish in my low-fat vegetarian cookbook (which is saying a lot, all things considered).  I hate to admit it (because we all know this thing with NYL isn’t going anywhere), but I’m totally looking forward to this cooking thing and think it’ll be a lot of fun.  Also, long-time readers may recall that NYL has a hot tub.  What are the chances that my sweet little ass will be soaking in that tub by the end of the night, hmmmm???  : )

All good things ahead, which is what I like to hear.  In fact, I may even have a minute or two to breathe at work tomorrow.  Now wouldn’t *that* be nice.  Phew.

Good for you, and don’t worry about things not really going anywhere, you said you wanted more fun (sex) in 2010 so just relax and enjoy it. (I’m guessing) He knows about your grad school offers and plans so unless he’s talking about moving with you or begging you to stay then he’s perfectly aware it’s not really going anywhere either. You have a fun dating/social life going on, you’ve got the Grad school offer you want….how could things be any better really :)

Cooking is fun. Last night I made a BBQ tofu and carmelized onion stir-fry over rice, and for dessert I made baked apples. They turned out amazing, I was really happy (I’d made the tofu dish before and knew it was great, it’s one of Jake’s favorites).

oooh! if you’re going to stanford, it’ll still be too cold to wear short sleeves in march ;)

things sound like they’re going well with nyl. it sounds like they’re going somewhere…you’re cooking together and that’s kinda intimate. you’re not moving for a while, who knows what may happen!

Mal – Yeah, I really can’t complain; things are going pretty well right now! : ) NYL knows all about my grad school plans because it’s pretty much all I talk about these days, so he’s well aware that I’m leaving in a few months. It’s nice just to keep things casual with him – hanging out occasionally and having some completely laid-back, drama-free fun with someone I feel comfortable with. Of course I’d like for things to get more serious, but I think that ship sailed a long time ago.

Honey – Oooooh, sounds delish! I’m trying to cook more homemade meals these days, and that BBQ stir-fry dish sounds amazing. I whipped up a big pot of vegetarian chili over the weekend and have been eating leftovers all week. Yum.

Nicole – Yeah, I hear CA may not be as warm as I’m hoping for, but it’ll certainly be warmer than in New York! As for NYL, I’m just trying to take things as they come. For now, his sub-zero drama is a welcome retreat for me. : )
