Dating (mis)adventures of an unexpectedly sexy New Yorker

  • About Me

I’m a 30-year-old (!!!), single, charming, and totally dorky girl taking on the ridiculous New York dating scene. When guys are surprised to see a sex kitten emerge from behind my dorky exterior, I just smile and reply, “Who ever said that dorks can’t be sexy?" [More]

Obligatory LOST finale (mini)rant

25 May 2010

I’m going to make this short and sweet: I’ve been a devoted LOST fan for the past 6 years.  I was expecting greatness from the finale on Sunday.  I did not receive it.  I am confused, frustrated, and disappointed by the ending.  WTF, LOST???  Did Sawyer even take his shirt off in the finale?  I mean really!  Discuss.

See you in the shitter, brotha.

Edited to add: A statement issued by ABC (discussed in this article - WARNING: SPOILERS) at least clears up some confusion.  Funny, I actually prefer my interpretation of the finale before I heard about this rather than what I’m thinking now.  So I guess my impression of the finale just got worse.  Ugh.

Edited to add (again): After reading a decent splattering of online LOST finale reviews, and after processing my own thoughts on the finale a little more, here’s my conclusion: Despite my high hopes that, based on six edge-of-your-seat seasons, LOST would blow me away and take over as my all-time favorite TV series, the finale was a total let-down and – dare I say it – pretty fucking lame.  So my all-time favorite is still Six Feet Under, as it has been for the past few years and as I suspect it will be for a while to come.  Sorry, LOST.  You are dead to me.

Oh – OH! – and the fact that answers are supposedly coming as a bonus feature to what I assume will be a ridiculously high-priced DVD box set?  LAME!  What, it’s all about extortion of the fans now?  We won’t explain anything on TV, but if you drop 100 (150?  200?) bucks we just might give you a little something to chew on?  Not cool, writers.  Not cool.

I never interpreted those final credit scenes to mean anything, I figured they were showing pieces of the “set” as a final farewell to the show.

I think people’s opinions will differ on it based on what they expected. If they wanted answers to everything and anything, then they would be disappointed: even the producers admitted some stuff would be left open.

From a character resolution and spirituality standpoint, I think they ended it the best and only way they could. The episode in itself was fantastic, and “Christian Sheppard,” can’t believe I overlooked that one…

Fortunately, I read somewhere that more answers are actually coming on the DVD release, apparently there was a handful of stuff that was shot that didn’t get used due to running time. Not surprised, seemed like there was a commercial every three minutes on Sunday.

Six Feet Under was a great series and the finale was AMAZING. The last few minutes with the song playing by Sia….gives me chills.

My sense of humor would have demanded Mulder and Scully walking off a hovercraft onto the beach to have a satisfactory ending to the show — but I just appreciate 6 amazing seasons, as I don’t think there is really a way to end things.

Oh, and I got my PhD on Monday. Proof it can be done! It has not taken long for girls hot and cultured like you to drop their panties.

Shannon – I agree that from a character development standpoint, they wrapped things up pretty well in a big happy bow. BUT… can you honestly tell me that you watched 6 seasons of the show for the character development? I was watching because I wanted to know what the fucking island was, damn it!!!

Rachelle – Exactly. Those final few minutes were absolutely unreal – I cried for hours afterward. What a perfect way to wrap up a truly fantastic series. (And yes, I’m still a little in love with Nate and David.) : )

Dr. Jonsi – HOLY SHIT, CONGRATULATIONS! : ) Excellent job, my friend. Please PLEASE tell us about all the hot PhD sex you’re having. Mmmmm… PhD sex… drool…

Yes, I did. Why was Locke crippled? What was Richard Alpert’s story? And so on, if not for the characters, the show wouldn’t have been nearly as great.

They explained the purpose of the island in the Richard Alpert and Jacob/Man in Black episodes. The right question would be “what is the light?” which they didn’t go into, but maybe it’s the same light as the light in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction ;)

If there were two things I felt they did drop the ball on, it was not answering why Walt was “special” (though it’s speculated Walt was filmed in a cut scene that didn’t make air), and the deal with pregnant women.

The one surprising question I can’t believe some people are asking is about the polar bears, which shows me they haven’t watched the whole series closely enough: season three indirectly pointed out who brought them there.

I interpreted the LOST finale the same way I think you did (before I read that the plane footage was not part of the actual show). And I like my interpretation better than what many people are saying. To say the island wasn’t real answers more than if it was real.

I have watched every minute of every season to the point of obsession… and I liked the finale. Was it spectacular? No. But was it a send-off not only to Jack, but to fans of the show? Yeah. We got to see the relationships, how far they’ve all come, and as the producers have said, in the end, it all comes down to love. Connections. Relationships. And I like that.

I liked that, by the end, the characters had been so intensely involved with one another for so long that the sense of nostalgia was the same regardless of whether they had been friends or enemies. That emotion, I felt, was right on.

But overall, I was completely disappointed and the longer it’s been since I saw the finale, the more of a cop out and the lamer it becomes in my mind.

I might watch it again on DVD, though, just to see if I am missing anything.

And I thought Walt wasn’t in the finale because he was a horrible character that everyone hated :-)
